Edit a macro

Change a wait, change a key, remove a click, attach pictures and save a copy in the step-by-step editor.

Open the editor

Open a macro, a recording or a converted script, then press Edit… in the main window. The editor shows the macro as a list of steps in plain words, such as Press a key, Click and Wait.

You always edit a copy. The file you opened is not changed, and neither is an .ahk script.

Before you start

  • Recordings. A recording opens as readable steps. In an edited copy, mouse movement is simplified to straight moves and positions stay where you recorded them (window scaling is not kept). A banner says so before you save. If you close the editor without saving, the recording plays exactly as before.
  • Converted scripts. A banner says "This is a converted copy of a script". Press What changes to see what editing would lose, then Start editing. If a script cannot be edited as steps, the editor says so and Why tells you the reason. The Original script button shows the AutoHotkey text, read only, with line numbers.

Change a wait

  1. Click the Wait step.
  2. Change the number of seconds.
  3. Press Save changes.

Change a key

  1. Click the Press a key step.
  2. In the key box, press the key you want.
  3. Press Save changes.

Remove a click

  1. Click the Click step.
  2. Press Remove.
  3. If you change your mind, press Undo. Redo puts it back again.

Add a step

Press Add action and choose from the groups: Mouse, Keyboard, Wait, Screen detection, Repeat and conditions, and Advanced. Steps that need a picture stay greyed out until the macro has a picture attached, and say why.

Duplicate, Remove and More work on the step you have selected. Right-click a step for the same choices. Overview gives a short summary of a longer macro.

Attach pictures

If a step needs a picture the macro does not have, the editor says which are missing and shows Attach pictures. Press it and choose the PNG files. LuvMacro matches them to the missing pictures by file name, and tells you about any file it leaves out and why: it is not one of the missing pictures, it is not a PNG, or it is larger than 2 MB.

The editor cannot take a picture from your screen yet. Make the PNG with a screenshot tool, or see Missing pictures.

Save a copy

  1. Press Save changes in the editor. The main window says your changes are kept.
  2. Press Save… in the main window and choose a name. LuvMacro writes a new .luvmacro file.

Your changes are not written to a file until you press Save….

Suggestions

While you edit, LuvMacro may show one quiet idea at a time. It never changes your macro by itself. Press Do it to use the idea, Undo to put it back, or Not now to hide it. To switch suggestions off, press Turn off suggestions, or open Settings, then General, then Smart suggestions.
