Screen sizes and scaling
Why LuvMacro warns about a different screen size, and what to do when clicks or pictures land in the wrong place.
Why it matters
A macro that clicks at a place on the screen was made on a screen of a certain size. On a different size, the same place can be somewhere else. Pictures matter too: a picture of a button looks bigger or smaller at a different size or display scale.
What the warnings mean
LuvMacro compares your screen with the one the macro was made for and tells you in plain words:
- Your screen is a different size than this macro expects. It shows the size it was made for and yours.
- Your game window is a different size than this macro expects. The window is not the shape it was when the macro was recorded.
- Your display scaling is 150% but this macro was made at 100%. Things in the game may look bigger or smaller.
After that LuvMacro tells you what it can do. If it can adjust positions, it says LuvMacro will adjust positions to fit. If the shape is different too, some clicks may still not line up. If it cannot adjust, it says Clicks and picture searches may land in the wrong places.
It also says when pictures saved from the game may not be found, because they will look a different size.
A warning is not an error, and the macro is still allowed to play. Before you play, the main window may also say Designed for 1920 × 1080. Review before playing. Test a short run first.
Find your own screen size and scale
Open Windows Settings, then System, then Display. Note the resolution and the scale (for example 1920 × 1080 at 100%). Compare them with the size shown in Import details, or in the warning.
Make a macro fit
Try these, in this order:
- Use the size it was made for. Set Windows Display to the same resolution and scale, or play it on a screen that has them.
- Keep the window the same. For a recording, use the same window size as when you recorded. Recordings made in LuvMacro 1.1.0 or later remember their window and can scale mouse positions to the window you play in. A different window shape produces a warning.
- Record again. A new short recording on your own screen fits your own screen.
- Make your own pictures. For a script that looks for pictures, make the pictures again on your screen and save them as PNG files with the same names. See Missing pictures.
Imported scripts
LuvMacro takes the screen size from the script where it can, from a check against the screen width and height. If the script only mentions a size in a comment, such as 1920x1080, LuvMacro treats that as a guess and says so in Import details.
Editing and scaling
When you edit a recording, positions in the edited copy stay where you recorded them (window scaling is not kept). See Edit a macro.
Honest limits
LuvMacro has been tried on only a few screen setups. Different monitors, different scales and several monitors have not been tested on real hardware. If clicks land in the wrong place, open Settings, choose Troubleshoot…, copy the support report and ask in the Discord server. Say what your screen size and scale are.
